Budget coach

Upload your budget or a bank export and see where your money goes, how much you save and the one step to take next. Your file is read on your own device; nothing is uploaded, sent or stored.

Your budget, read in seconds

Use our budget template (opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets), your own spreadsheet, or a transaction export from your bank (CSV). A sheet needs a column describing each line and a column with the amount.

How it works

The coach sorts each line into a category (housing, groceries, debt payments, saving and so on) by its name. A bank export is averaged over the months it covers, and transfers between your own accounts are left out unless they go to savings or investments. If a line lands in the wrong place, change it in the table and everything updates.

It then compares your spending with common rules of thumb, such as saving at least 15 percent of take-home pay, and suggests your next step on the Money Path. For a full picture of where you stand, take the Money Path checkup.

The coach is education, not personal financial advice. It knows only what is in your file. For advice on your own situation, talk to a fee only fiduciary adviser. Excel files are read with SheetJS, an open source library loaded only when you choose an Excel file.
